Located in Paris, Le Louvre or Grand Louvre is known to be one of the most popular art museums in the world. This historic monument is home to around thirty five thousand historical objects, which include prehistoric remains to artifacts of the nineteenth century.

The British Museum, which was initially based on the works of scientist and physician, Sir Hans Sloane, now boasts of having a collection of over seven million different items. Uffizi, located in Florence is one of the most popular and among the oldest art museums of the Western world. Botticelli’s work, The Birth of Venus is the most popular attraction of this museum. Yet, you should not miss the brilliant works of Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Caravaggio or Raphael, which are also displayed in this museum.
5. The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met or the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City boasts of displaying a collection of over two million art works. For a proper tour of the museum, the authorities have classified the collection into 19 different curatorial sections. The museum is also known for hosting exhibitions of different noted artists and their works.
6. Museo del Prado
Located in Madrid, Museo del Prado was initially founded as a museum for sculptures and paintings. However, later collection of medals, coins, prints and drawings have been added to its collection. Yet, it is still known for the Fernando Yanez’s painting of Saint Catherine and The Last Supper by Juan de Flandes.
7. Egyptian Museum
Egyptian Museum or the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, located in Cairo was founded with an attempt to preventing the plunder of the archaeological places. 8. Rijksmuseum

9. The Smithsonian
Located in Washington D.C., the Smithsonian boasts of having the largest museum space in the world. The research and education institute of the country, which also includes museums and a zoological garden, is a major tourist destination. Records state the museum holds a collection of around one hundred and thirty six million objects.
10. The State Hermitage
Located in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the Hermitage Museum or the State Hermitage displays historical masterpieces and some of them are three hundred years old. The museum, which has a collection of around three million items not only displays art works of the past but also a wide range of ancient jewelries.
